Description of Project:
Cortana Mall Properties
wanted a professional and contemporary interiorscape by updating all of the
existing free-standing and built-in planters in its 12 million square foot mall
under renovation. The goal was to coordinate the interiorscape with its new
environmental design, including the installation of skylights, hand painted
ceiling murals, umbrella seating and park style benches. The project began with
the removal and replacement of diseased or dead plants and the excavation of all
decomposed and compressed soil. The previous contractor had not properly
maintained the plantings. Existing topiaries also needed to be brought back to
life. The greatest challenges came with the installation of the new plant
material without machinery because of the terrazzo flooring during the hours of
10:00 pm and 6:00 am. Heroman moved among others30 800 to 1200 pound Adonidia
Spindle trees and Washingtonia palms.
