![]() ![]() Worldscape 2000 Award CIPA California Interior Plantscape Assoc. Category: Major Renovation The mall was known as the "death house" because everything died and replacements were very high. Heroman Services took over maintenance in March 1999. Management allowed six months of on-site research and development to see if the project could be turned around. Management was so pleased with their efforts; in the fall of 1999 they authorized renovation to the original landscape architect's specifications. It was found that the existing soil was inconsistent and the water that was used in the past had been detrimental to the foliage. None of the existing plants, even though they were 4-8 years old, had rooted out. They were still in their root balls. The installation and renovation was carried out only at night over two weeks to avoid conflict with regular mall operations. Installing all new clay containers worked to update the new image, and relying on the use of PSI Matric to assist in water distribution allowed the new plants to fully root into their new homes. The plant selection includes Black Olives, Spathiphyllum, Rhapis, Phoenix roebelenii, Alexander Palms, Winter Green Ficus, Hybrid Assorted Aglaonema and Arboricola. There are more than 1100 onsite foliage plants and a color rotation of nearly 150. |
